Shenhua Printing Observation: How to Extend the Service Life of Die Plate Spring Pads and the Scientific Method of Replacement

The knife plate spring pads are consumables, and their service life directly affects the production cost of the enterprise. Many enterprises only focus on the purchase price of the spring pads but ignore how to extend their service life through scientific use and maintenance. Shenhua Printing has discovered through a large number of customer case analyses that for the same quality spring pads, if the usage method is appropriate, the service life can be extended by more than double.

Firstly, correct installation is the basis for extending the service life of the spring pad. Before installation, the surface of the knife plate must be cleaned thoroughly, removing residual old glue and debris to ensure that the spring pad is closely attached to the knife plate. When pasting, slowly press from one end to the other to avoid air bubbles, otherwise the spring pad in the bubble area is prone to collapse prematurely. At the same time, the arrangement of the spring pad should be uniform, and the width of the spring pad on both sides of the knife edge should be consistent to ensure uniform pressure distribution.

Secondly, setting the die-cutting pressure reasonably is crucial. Excessive pressure is the main reason for the premature failure of the spring pad. Many operators, in order to ensure cutting through, habitually set the pressure too high, which will cause the spring pad to be in an overloaded compression state for a long time, accelerating the elastic decay. The correct approach is to gradually increase the pressure until it is just enough to cut through the material. This can not only ensure the die-cutting quality but also extend the service life of the spring pad and the die plate.

In addition, regular inspection and maintenance are also indispensable. During production, regular checks of the status of the spring pad should be conducted. If local collapse, cracking or detachment is found, it should be replaced in time. For spring pads used in large areas, a segmented replacement method can be adopted, only replacing the damaged parts, without the need for overall replacement, which can save costs. At the same time, when the equipment is shut down, the pressure of the die-cutting machine should be released to avoid the spring pad remaining in a compressed state for a long time.

Regarding the replacement timing of the spring pad, many enterprises do not have a clear standard. They often replace it only when there is a clear fault, which has caused unnecessary losses. Shenhua Printing suggests that when the permanent deformation rate of the compression of the spring pad exceeds 10%, or when there are consecutive cases of not being able to cut through or sticking the knife, it should be replaced in time. For high-speed die-cutting production lines, it is recommended to establish a regular replacement system, based on the production batch and the rated life of the spring pad, to replace it in advance to avoid sudden faults affecting production.
